In country‑and‑western style piano playing, a widely used technique is the so‑called “twang”, or “slip note”: an on‑the‑beat grace note that imitates the sound of the pedal steel guitar. My piece Twang is based on this particular technique, though elements from other styles of piano playing, notably ragtime and boogie‑woogie, are also thrown into the mix.
